News Release
The new kid at school has yellow fangs, dragon-like claws and fiery breath!
New book takes us into the wild world of rumors
Bust 'em Up Bill (nobody knows his real name yet) is coming to school and already the rumors are flying. In The Student from Zombie Island, author Michael J. Moorehead (who wrote the book several years ago when he was seven) reveals what can happen when we make things up.
Written for young readers, Michael's book shows us just how crazy it can become when we make assumptions, listen to gossip, and spread rumors. By the time Bust 'em Up Bill arrives in the classroom, everyone is prepared to take cover. And why wouldn't they? They've already decided that he must be the most frightening, most horrid kid to ever show up in an elementary school.
Michael originally created the story as a gift for his second grade teacher. But in the four years since, he has revised and polished his manuscript. One day, he asked his mother (a writer and editor for newspapers and magazines) how he might get it printed as a book. They talked it over and then, with much anticipation, they sent his manuscript out to a number of publishers.
"I was amazed and delighted," she said, "when I learned that Little Five Star wanted to publish his book."
The lively and captivating illustrations help convey the story's message that rumors can quickly get out of control and seldom do they resemble the truth once it becomes known.
