Celebrated child author presents at Albany Winter Fest

TEMPE, AZ (Nov. 9, 2007) - Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings' special events staff is flying in celebrated 12-year-old author Michael J. Moorehead from Phoenix, Ariz., to give four presentations based on his book, The Student From Zombie Island: Conquering the Rumor Monster, at the Dec. 29 Albany Winter Festival.

"This is a great event focusing on family, entertainment and winter in Albany," says Tommy Nicchi entertainment coordinator for the City of Albany. "Our event this year will feature over 50 artists and attractions throughout downtown Albany."

At 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m., Michael will give presentations in the historic Masonic Temple at 67 Corning Place in Albany, New York, speaking on "Pursuing Your Dream Into Reality" and discussing how he followed his own dream to become a published author at age 12. He hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams - no matter how young or old they are. In addition, he will sell and autograph copies of The Student From Zombie Island.

This humorous, whimsically illustrated book tells the story of a boy, Bust 'em Up Bill, starting at a new school just after winter break and the wild rumors that circulate about him before he even sets foot in the classroom. They say his breath is so bad, it will singe your face if you get too close, and if he burps near you, it might even set your hair on fire! Everyone knows he must be a frightening, horrible, rotten monster! Could it be true? With a name like his, why wouldn't it be?

Michael wrote The Student From Zombie Island as a gift for his second-grade teacher who he says"inspired him to read and write." In addition to visiting bookstores and special events, he also performs puppet shows with the help of his Rumor Monsters and visits schools to promote literacy.

Michael is available for pre-event phone interviews or for a limited number of in-person interviews during his visit to Albany.
