ELIZABETH'S CONSPIRACY

Author turns Forgetfulness into Unforgettable Mystery Series

The work of the late Agatha-award-winning author Elizabeth Daniels Squire is being revived by Five Star Publications in the launching of its new Five Star Sleuths division. Who Killed What's-Her-Name?, the first of Squire's unforgettable series featuring Peaches Dann, will soon be re-released.

For decades, readers have loved the absentminded Peaches who makes an unlikely but often comical heroine/sleuth. She has an arsenal of tricks, however, to help her solve murders. Keeping track of her eyeglasses and keys is another matter.

Throughout the series, Peaches solves murders all while writing a book titled How to Survive Without a Memory. The series, which is filled with helpful memory tricks, has proven popular with readers, especially those who are dealing with learning disabilities or memory problems. "Rule One of surviving is this: Figure out what your brain will do and use that to get around what your brain won't do," explains Peaches. "This is pleasanter than hitting your head against the wall in sheer frustration and much more useful then swearing."

Who Killed What's-Her-Name? finds Peaches using these tricks to become an unlikely sleuth when she discovers her aunt floating face down in her father's fish pond. Dropping subtle clues throughout, Squire leads the reader through a maze of quirky relatives, caregivers, neighbors, and friends. The adventure this forgetful amateur crime detective takes to uncover the murderer is truly unforgettable with an ending that surprises even seasoned mystery readers.

Liz was born into a family of writers, yet was challenged by dyslexia and short-term memory loss. She was posthumously inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame in 2006.

"The strength of Who Killed What's-Her-Name? is in examining things we all face: aging of the body and brain, taking responsibility for kin who are helpless-but deny they are-and realizing the finiteness of life. Squire addresses these in a gently humorous way that's easy to take." -The Charlotte Observer

"This is a skillfully wrought, suspenseful tale with ingeniously presented subplots that all mesh in the end." - Sunday Telegram
