The "Peaches Dann" series of mystery novels by Elizabeth Daniels Squire to be re-released
Chandler, Arizona firm selected as new publisher
The complete works of the highly popular mystery series by the late Elizabeth Daniels Squire will be repackaged and reprinted under an agreement reached with Five Star Sleuths, a division of Five Star Publications, Inc., of Chandler, AZ.
This series, which features the loveable but absentminded amateur detective Peaches Dann, has over the years developed a fan base which circles the globe. "We are deeply honored to have been chosen to be part of introducing Peaches to a whole new generation of readers," says Linda F. Radke, president of Five Star Publications. All eight books in the series plus The Liz Reader, a collection of Squire's short stories, poetry, and essays, will be released in August 2007. Also being re-released is Squire's book, Fortune In Your Hand, which helps readers understand the art of palmistry.
Squire, who died in February 2001, was a recipient of the prestigious Agatha award and was posthumously inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame. She lived with her husband on an organic farm in the mountains of western North Carolina.
This southern Appalachian region serves as the background for most of her works, and the diverse and often colorful people who live there was the inspiration for many of her characters. In her books, readers will discover among others a marijuana farmer, a genteel grandmother, the wife of a gun-crazy mountain man who runs a doll hospital, and a very talented dog. Because of the manner in which she describes the settings and characters in her novels, The Wall Street Journal once suggested readers take her books with them when vacationing in the south.
Squire's husband, C.B. "Chick" Squire, said he chose Five Star Sleuths after interviewing several different publishers. "It was the personal attention I knew Five Star would give this project that made the difference," Squire said. Her husband edited The Liz Reader, a project he regards as a work of love.
The author, who suffered her entire life from dyslexia, chose not to hide from her affliction but rather attacked it head on. In fact, she once said that Peaches Dann's memory problems were accurate depictions of her own. Peaches, as did Squire, is forever inventing ingenious ways to remember things, a gift which enables her to solve mystery after mystery.
The titles in the Peaches Dann series are: Is There a Dead Man in the House? Forget About Murder, Remember the Alibi, Who Killed What's her Name? Where There's a Will, Memory Can Be Murder, Kill the Messenger, and Whose Death Is It Anyway?
