Dianne Ebertt Beeaff has been drawn to the American Southwest since childhood, capturing its buttes, mesas and sunsets on canvas since grade school. Within the pages of Power's Garden, she brings the area's historical culture to life on paper.

A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Dianne moved to Phoenix with her sister, Carol, in the late 1960s. A history major at the University of Arizona, she customized her coursework to focus on Southwest studies and graduated with high honors.

An acclaimed artist, Dianne's graphite sketches and watercolor paintings have been on display in both local and national galleries. She has also worked extensively as a freelance writer, her poetry and articles having been featured in magazines throughout the United States and Canada. Dianne has also published two pieces of nonfiction-a collection of self-illustrated poetry and a bestselling account of her road trip experiences with the legendary Irish rock band U2.

Coupled with an artist's eye for detail, Dianne's commitment to historical accuracy makes Power's Garden a compelling first novel. Having visited Power's Garden herself, Dianne's captivating account of 1917 Arizona comes full circle, the embodiment of a deep-rooted cultural clash that still simmers today. "Religious and cultural conflict has animated the world from time immemorial," she explains. "With Power's Garden, I wanted to show how it affects 'ordinary' people in 'ordinary' situations, thereby enhancing our own prospects for peace in an increasingly complicated world."

Dianne keeps a running personal journal that "gets more attention" during her extensive travels. She and her husband, Dan, reside in Tucson, AZ, and are the parents of two children, Dustin and Danielle.
