Beckey will be signing/selling copies of Perfectly Amanda at "The Book Nook and Java Shop" in the charming community of Montague, Michigan. Also attending that day will be a very special guest and friend of Amanda Blake's - Jane Price. For readers of Perfectly Amanda, you will remember that Jane worked for the Gilberts when they were successfully breeding Cheetahs in captivity and helping to save the endangered species. Jane continued her work with Amanda after she left the Phoenix area and stayed with the actress until 1987 at which time she had become a very dear friend. Jane will be on hand with photos of those great furry friends that were her charges while at the Gilbert estate on Exeter Boulevard.

January 15, 2011, 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Beckey Burgoyne -- Danville native, Covington resident, and Northeast Elementary School teacher -- will sign copies of her book, Perfectly Amanda, Gunsmoke's Miss Kitty: To Dodge and Beyond, at the library on Saturday, January 15, from 2-4 p.m. in the first floor Meeting Room. Copies of her book will be available to purchase, and she is generously donating $3 from the sale of each book to the library.
For nearly 20 years, families gathered around their television sets to watch the adventures of Marshal Matt Dillon, Festus, Chester, Doc, and, of course, Miss Kitty, owner of the Long Branch Saloon and the Marshal's love interest. As a young girl, Burgoyne was greatly influenced by Miss Kitty. She admired her independent nature and contentment with choosing a career over homesteading. As television didn't often portray women with such strength and strong will, Miss Kitty was truly an inspiration and an excellent role model for a new generation of women.
Beckey Burgoyne's appearance will include remarks about the writing of her book, Amanda Blake and her best-known character, Miss Kitty, as well as memorabilia. For more information, visit www.PerfectlyAmanda.com.

Dodge City Celebration for the 55th anniversary of Gunsmoke
Dodge City, KS 67801
620-561-1925
By the 15th season, viewers were well aware of the play of feeling between Miss Kitty and Matt Dillon, the marshal of Dodge City. The show's creators explored another level of that relationship in an episode titled "The Badge," scheduled to air in February 1970. In the episode, Matt is badly wounded. When he begins to recover, Kitty packs up and leaves Dodge, unwilling to be around the next time Matt is wounded and in danger of dying. The story was rejected by CBS executives, who argued that Kitty's extreme reaction was out of character. But when one of the producers handed them his resignation, the episode was returned to the schedule and aired Feb. 2, 1970. Beckey Burgoyne, author of a new biography of Amanda Blake, who played Miss Kitty for 19 years, remembers that episode. "I remember vividly being 10 or 12 years old and the impact that episode had on me. It really showed Miss Kitty's beauty and brains and the strength she had," she said. Burgoyne will be in Dodge City this weekend to attend the "Gunsmoke" 55th anniversary celebrations and to sign copies of her book.
