12-YEAR-OLD AUTHOR WINS BEST CHILDREN'S BOOK
IN READER VIEWS ANNUAL LITERARY AWARDS CONTEST
TEMPE, AZ (March 18, 2008) - Michael Moorehead, the 12-year-old author of The Student From Zombie Island: Conquering the Rumor Monster, is the youngest recipient ever to achieve the 2008 Reader Views Annual Literary Award for Best Children's Book for Ages 7 and Older published in 2007. The humorous, delightfully illustrated book (ISBN: 1-58985-072-6 / ISBN: 978-1-58985-072-9) was published by Chandler's Five Star Publications, Inc.
"I'm so thrilled and thankful to win this national award, and to discover that people think I am award-winning author material," says Moorehead. "I hope it inspires other kids to write, too!"
The Reader Views Annual Literary Awards were established to honor writers who had their books published by a small press, university press, or independent book publisher.
"Reader Views reviews more than 2,000 books per year from budding authors who have worked hard to achieve their dream of being published," Reader Views Managing Editor Irene Watson says. "Our Annual Literary Awards recognize the very best of these up-and-coming authors, all talented writers who we know have very promising writing careers ahead of them."
The Reader Views Annual Literary Awards are granted in 20 fiction and 30 nonfiction categories, as well as 15 specialized, sponsored categories. The entries are judged by Reader Views reviewers, all avid readers with a wide range of experiences, considered experts in the respective fields.
Michael wrote The Student From Zombie Island as a gift for his second-grade teacher who he says "inspired him to read and write." The book tells the story of a boy, Bust 'em Up Bill, starting at a new school and the wild rumors that circulate about him before he even sets foot in the classroom.
The hardcover book retails for $15.95 and is available at Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com, Target.com, ZombieIslandBooks.com, KidsCanPublish.com and FiveStarPublications.com. To book a Zombie Island or Kids Can Publish presentation, call 480-940-8182.
