Child Author Honored With Buck O'neil Legacy Seat
CHANDLER, AZ (May 26, 2010) - One of Kansas' most remarkable youths, 13-year-old Dylan Peters, who wrote Tic Talk: Living with Tourette Syndrome, a 9-year-old boy's story in his own words, was recently honored with a free day of baseball watched from the famous Buck O'Neil's Legacy Seat behind home plate in Kauffman Stadium - the same seat O'Neil sat in for many days and nights supporting the Kansas City Royals.
Dylan, who speaks internationally on Tourette Syndrome, including having addressed the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada's National Conference at age 10, earned the seating privilege for, "Being a member of our community who, on a large or small scale, embodies an aspect of O'Neil's spirit," according to Amanda Putnam, coordinator of community affairs for the Kansas City Royals.
In his book, a National Parenting Publications Awards recipient, Dylan shares what Tourette Syndrome has taught him about tolerance and acceptance in a humorous, yet insightful style. Readers come to understand the enormous pressures this often misunderstood affliction places on those who have it and those who love them. He has also published articles in ParentGuide and Tweens & Teens News.
