FIVE STAR PUBLICATIONS PREPARES FOR PRESTIGIOUS LOS ANGELES TIMES FESTIVAL OF BOOKS:
12 FIVE STAR TITLES REPRESENTED, 8 AUTHORS TO ATTEND

Participating in one of the country's largest and most prestigious book festivals, Five Star Publications will host three booths at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in April. Held on the campus of UCLA, the event will take place April 24-25, 2010 and is expected to draw 130,000+ visitors.

Five Star Publications is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with its first trip to the highly-anticipated annual event, and President and Founder Linda F. Radke is thrilled with the opportunity. "I see this as a wonderful chance not only to network professionally," she said, "but also to meet the buying public. There's nothing like shaking hands with the people who read your books, and I'm really excited about Five Star having a presence at this incredible show."

Established in 1996, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is a free public event, welcoming visitors and vendors from throughout Southern California and around the country. A two-day celebration of literature, the event includes author engagements and book signings, storytelling, cooking demonstrations and poetry readings. The Festival of Books also includes nearly 300 exhibitor booths representing booksellers, publishers, literacy promotion and cultural organizations. Five Star Publications will showcase twelve titles at the festival, featuring book genres ranging from cookbooks and professional how-to's to fiction, historical fiction, personal memoirs, biographies and children's books.

At Booth 404, Five Star Publications will showcase three titles by Linda Radke herself, as well as several Five Star authors. These include:

  • The Economical Guide to Self-Publishing and Promote Like a Pro, both by Linda Radke. Written by a 25-year industry veteran, these professional guides share the tools of the trade with aspiring industry newcomers.
  • Legends in the Kitchen by Linda Radke and Mrs. Howard Keel is a culinary must-have, chock full of delicious, unique recipes that make it possible for chefs and novice cooks alike to impress friends and family with the same dishes celebrities prepare for their guests.
  • On the Brink of Bliss and Insanity by Lisa Cerasoli is an award-winning modern-day tale of raw, haphazard adventure where love is lost, found, "whined and dined," but mostly - redefined.
  • As Nora Jo Fades Away, also by Lisa Cerasoli, captures the true-life heart, humor and hardship of caring for a loved one with dementia; in this case, Cerasoli's grandmother.
  • Power's Garden, an award-winning first novel by Dianne Ebertt Beeaff, captivates readers with a spellbinding story of two southeastern Arizona families-one Texan, the other Mormon-whose lives dramatically collide in the midst of World War I.
  • Penned by Ray Lopez, who recently retired after selling automobiles for 30 years, Inside the Minds of Car Dealers reveals all the tricks of the trade, so consumers can buy their next cars without fear.
  • Perfectly Amanda, Gunsmoke's Miss Kitty: To Dodge and Beyond is the biography of Amanda Blake, who portrayed Kitty Russell on television's Gunsmoke for nearly 20 years. Blake's inspirational story is told by Beckey Burgoyne, an Illinois elementary school teacher and avid Miss Kitty fan.

At adjacent booth 405, two additional Five Star authors will promote their memoirs, Campingly Yours by Thomas C. Adler and Home After Dark by Darryl E. Robidoux.

  • A lifelong summer camp enthusiast and camp director, Adler shares his moving life story in a charming narrative that is currently being adapted for screenplay.
  • Having achieved professional success and wealth at great personal cost, Robidoux candidly shares his hard-earned life lessons to benefit others.

"We are so pleased to provide our authors with an opportunity to attend the LA Festival and personally mingle with potential readers," said Radke. "Because we do represent such an array of book genres and subject matter, we also decided to host a booth in the event's children's area. Two of our children's book authors will be at Booth 853, and visitors to our display are in for a treat."

  • The award-winning author of more than 30 science and nature books for children, Conrad Storad delights young readers once again with Rattlesnake Rules, an engaging glimpse at nature's most misunderstood reptiles.
  • A native of Liberia, Lynette Murray-Gibson's award-winning picture book, Clara Meets Mr. Twiddles, is based on Murray-Gibson's personal experiences as housekeeper who meets a cranky cat. Proceeds from this heartwarming tale are being used to build schools for underprivileged children in the author's home country.
