Five Star Publications puts young authors on radar at Book Expo America
Like a small quasar in a vast universe, Five Star Publications shines bright with stellar authors, such as Elizabeth Daniels Squire, who wrote Kill the Messenger; actor Alex Cord, writer of the 2007 Glyph Award recipient A Feather in the Rain; and 14-time book author Shari Cohen of Alfie's Bark Mitzvah. Kids Can Publish University (KCPU), which can be viewed at www.KidsCanPublish.com, promotes literacy and a love for writing and illustrating through free monthly contests that reward winners with a published byline. Children in grades one through nine can enter writing or drawing assignments they've already done for their classrooms or create something new for the contest, and they can enter as often as they wish. Each month, KCPU selects pieces in each age division to publish online. Only the very best entries are published, making it an honor to be chosen. Winners also receive Kids Can Publish: Write on! wristbands. In addition, KCPU offers grant-writing information to teachers, school workshops and a bookstore.
