Snowbird Ambassador Welcomes Migratory Flock With Wit, Humor & Bagels
CHANDLER, AZ (Oct. 30, 2007) - The ambassador of Arizona's winter visitors, Len Schritter, author of The Secret Life of a Snowbird: An Inside Look at Retirement in America's Sunbelt, officially greets returning retirees with a free "Welcome Home" Five Star Books & Bagels reception and humorous presentation 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at Viewpoint RV & Golf Resort, 8700 E. University, Mesa, Ariz.
The Idaho potato farmer, who winters in Arizona, shares a series of stories that are funny and heartwarming. While noshing on bagels, attendees learn why a strange woman in a bingo hall asked if she could rub him with a pig, what it's like to battle a resort community's weed police and how not to react if your spouse suggests a little burlesque.
"Len Schritter really nailed the life of a winter visitor with his fun and informative book," says Dan Austin, CEO of the Arizona Winter Visitors Association. "I really could relate to each chapter."
Schritter also visits Viewpoint RV & Golf Resort to film his book trailer, so guests are forewarned to wear their snowbird best throughout the day, as they might just end up on film - and winter visitors know what he means: tropical shirts pulled over (not tucked in) Bermuda shorts, long support socks, tinted wrap-around sunglasses and John Deere baseball caps!
The Secret Life of a Snowbird provides a window into the life those refugees from the frozen north who escape winter at home by migrating southward each year. It's available for $15.95 at www.SecretLifeOfASnowbird.com, at www.FiveStarPublications.com or your favorite bookstore.
