In The Misadventures of a Roaming Cartoonist, Gill details these USO trips. In his own words, Gill describes them as the "misadventures of a roving cartoonist." Gill is an icon from the halcyon days of American comic books, for the Lone Ranger series fueled the imaginations of generations of youngsters. Shortly before his death in 2005 at the age of 92, Gill entrusted his manuscript to longtime friend Tim Lasiuta who adds his own comments to this remarkable book.
