WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT?

For more than two decades, Tom Gill-the artist behind the Lone Ranger adventure comic books from 1950 to 1970-toured the world with his colleagues entertaining U.S. troops. In The Misadventures of a Roaming Cartoonist, Gill details these USO trips. In his own words, Gill describes them as the "misadventures of a roving cartoonist." With pals Milt Caniff (Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon), Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois), Al Capp (Li'l Abner), and others, Gill brought smiles to thousands of military personnel stationed in some of the most remote locations on the globe.

Gill is an icon from the halcyon days of American comic books, for the Lone Ranger series fueled the imaginations of generations of youngsters. Shortly before his death in 2005 at the age of 92, Gill entrusted his manuscript to longtime friend Tim Lasiuta who adds his own comments to this remarkable book.

WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK UNIQUE?
  • Gill's book offers a rare insight into the friendships and lives of some of the country's most famous and revered cartoonists.
  • The book contains additional information and artwork by Gill and many of his contemporaries.
