About the Authors
Since 1985, veteran publisher Linda F. Radke, owner of Five Star Publications, has been ahead of her game--self-publishing before it was commonplace, partnership publishing before the rest of the world even knew what it was and producing award-winning traditional and nontraditionally published fiction and nonfiction manuscripts for adults and children.
Among her many accolades, Radke is author of The Economical Guide to Self-Publishing (a Writer's Digest Book Club selection that is now into its second edition) and Promote Like a Pro: Small Budget, Big Show (a Doubleday Executive Program Book Club selection). She is a founding member of the Arizona Book Publishing Association and was named Book Marketer of the Year by Book Publicists of Southern California.
Five Star Publications, which dedicates a portion of its proceeds to The Mark Foster Youth Fund and now to the Motion Picture & Television Fund with the publication of Legends in the Kitchen, strongly encourages its authors to also give to charitable causes. Raised on a farm in rural Wisconsin, Judy Keel's cooking influences came from her husband's grandmother and on her mother's side from Grandmother Jones, who owned the Mission Tea Room in Chicago, Illinois, and was an "unbelievable cook." She also gleaned a tip or two from her mother.
Judy eventually left the farm and moved to Florida to study at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota. But instead of going into commercial art as planned, she found happiness with the love of her life, Howard Keel, Howard & Judy Keel whom she married and wowed with her cooking skills. Judy jokingly notes that "sex don't last, but cookin' do!"
Judy and Howard have a daughter, Leslie, and three stepchildren, who endowed them with lots of grand- and great-grandchildren. Judy was widowed in 2004, but not before Howard wrote Only Make Believe: My Life in Show Business. Judy now lives in Charleston, South Carolina, and is enjoying the local food immensely.
