"Night after night for the past few weeks I have savoured the stories told by Mildred Norman in her book Henry's Daughter. Her life story is told in such an interesting style and has been very enjoyable reading. Her love and joy in teaching first graders was one of my favorite sections. Her descriptions of World War II made a huge impression as I was a baby during that time and I've never fully connected with what went on in Europe. Her passion for justice is great. She could be living a complacent life but no, here she is in her eighties helping young people find direction in their lives. I am so glad that she has taken the time and strength to put her fascinating and inspiring life into a book."

"This book is a slice of history seen through Mildred Norman’s eyes. Whether reading to a wounded soldier, feeding destitute German civilians or comforting a child. Mildred shows that hers is a life of service and dedication to others. I loved it!"
Governor Rose Mofford
"Mildred Norman writes enchantingly with humor and transparency about her exciting life. It is a "must read" for grandchildren who never heard their grandparent’s story because it chronicles the attitudes of her generation and a period of history with so many changes. More importantly, her story will be an inspiration and encouragement to young people to reach out, take risks, make a difference, and live a full and generous life. It has inspired me to make more of a difference and take more risks. Easy to read and delightfully written, I could not put it down."

"Reading Henry’s Daughter is like having a good friend lead you through some of the major historical events that shaped our lives in the 21st century. History is not simply a recitation of dates and names. Rather, it is a collection of human experiences. Mildred Norman brings those experiences alive with a deft combination of deeply personal insights and gentle humor. My wife Mary Joy and I have both read this book, and we are deeply appreciative that Ms. Norman has chosen to share her life with such grace and warmth."

"Henry's Daughter captured my attention immediately, and I had trouble
putting it down.
Much like Tom Brokaw, Mildred Norman captures what it was like growing
up in middle America from her personal, feminine perspective. As a
young, first grade teacher in a small town in Iowa, Mildred learned
principles of teaching and managing. Little did she know these skills
would give her wisdom to handle challenges throughout the 20th century,
including military officers full of themselves in Germany at the end of
the war.
Her life story is written in a manner that allows the reader to reflect
on one's own personal story. With a straightforward manner she relates
many of her family's struggles through the depression, WW II, and adult
life. It is a story written without arrogance of accomplishment, and
with deep sensitivity to suffering, injustice, and the plight of
humanity, especially children. While Tom Brokaw's book The Greatest
Generation is primarily about men this is a book written by a very
thoughtful woman for both men and women. I highly recommend it to your
reading."

"Mildred Norman’s recollections are remarkable in their detail and reveal her passion for life and her compassion for others. Her story portrays a life lived with humility, purpose and accomplishment. I have been pleased to know Mildred for the past nineteen years. She is one of the most remarkable people with whom I have had the opportunity to work."
