About the Author

As the daughter of actor James Garner, life came with some benefits, of course, but it also let Gigi Garner know she'd never be content with simply being known as a star's daughter. As a result, she has established herself over the years as a multitalented individual in her own right. It has been a path, she will readily admit, that's been an interesting one indeed.

She was born Greta Scott Garner, but "everyone has always called me Gigi," she says. "Mom wanted it to be my first name, but Dad said it sounded too much like the name a stripper might use!"

Gigi grew up in Brentwood, California, and attended the film school at the University of Southern California. In the years since, she has been a recording artist in England and a songwriter for Word Records where she wrote three number one songs in 1995. Influenced by one of her father's hit TV detective series, "The Rockford Files," Gigi also became a licensed private investigator.

It's that career that motivated her to author The Cop Cookbook (Rutledge Hill Press, 1997), a compilation of recipes, rare photos, quizzes and brainteasers, and stories from some the entertainment industry's most popular TV and movie stars.

Several years ago, she discovered yet another passion. "My mother kept losing her Greek 'worry beads' and so I decided to learn how to make them," explains Gigi. When Gigi's friends saw her jewelry creations, they wanted them, too. She decided to attend jewelry school to learn more about the art, and she is now regarded as one of Hollywood's most innovative jewelry designers. Her clientele includes such notables as Penelope Cruz, Orlando Bloom, Halle Berry, and Sandra Bullock, and her jewelry pieces have appeared on such shows as Desperate Housewives and The O.C.

Gigi lives in West Hollywood with her beloved pet therapy dog Angus. You can contact the author at girltalkbook@aol.com.
