Diehard fans hoping for a behind-the-scenes look at Pratt's long and storied radio career will enjoy his book's humor and highlights from three decades of radio entertainment. However, Dave Pratt, Behind the Mic: 30 Years in Radio is more than a string of amusing trivia. His memoir presents the life story of a small-town boy who beat the odds to become the biggest name in the history of Arizona radio. New and old fans alike will enjoy this occasionally tear-jerking, sometimes funny, but always sincere ride with one of radio's legendary performers.
Pratt's sensational career began in his small hometown of Elko, Nev., and continued in the early 1980s in Arizona where he earned a reputation as a rock radio personality who released four albums and consistently sold out his own arena concerts. Dave Pratt in the Morning on KUPD ran for two decades and became America's longest-running rock 'n' roll morning show. Now, over three decades, "The Morning Mayor" has been honored with more than 100 awards and topped ratings in three different formats including country. In 2003, he joined CBS Radio's KMLE Country 108 to host Dave Pratt in the Morning with Stacey Brooks.
