About the Author/Suggested Interview Questions

About the Author, Linda F. Radke

Linda Radke, president of Five Star Publications, Incorporated, has parlayed a variety of different opportunities into a successful, award-winning, and continually evolving career.

Radke graduated from Arizona State University in 1976 with a degree in special education and elementary education. Fresh out of school, she worked as an instructor at Arizona State University in a program designed to aid special-ed students into the mainstream of higher education. For two years after she finished that project, she taught sixth grade.

When she realized the truth of the saying "it's hard to find good help," Radke founded her own household employment agency in Scottsdale, Arizona. Then, when she realized that many of the people who wanted to use her firm's services simply couldn't afford them, she compiled her advice into a book, The Domestic Screening Kit, which she self-published. Now hooked on books, she wrote and published Options: A Directory of Child and Senior Services, and then Nannies, Maids & More: The Complete Guide for Hiring Household Help.

Fired up by this success, Radke launched Five Star Publications imprint in 1985. Since then, she has written The Economical Guide to Self-Publishing: How to Produce and Market Your Book on a Budget (a 1996 Writer's Digest Book Club Selection), That Hungarian's in my Kitchen (a cookbook), and Household Careers: Nannies, Butlers, Maids & More. Household Careers received the 1994 AACE Citation for Career Education Initiatives, first place in the 1994 Arizona Press Women's Communications Contest, and honorable mention in the 1994 National Federation of Press Women's Communications Contest.

In her role as publisher, she's helped dozens of authors to produce their books and began Publishers Support Services, a firm devoted exclusively to aiding book writers in their work. Her clients and their books have been covered by: "60 Minutes", FOX News, Ladies Circle, Ladies Home Journal, the Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine, Success, the Associated Press, US Air magazine, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Choice, Medical Economics, Small Press, American Medical News, The Denver Post, The Arizona Republic, Business Opportunities, Book Watch, Rainbow Electronic Reviews, Creative Kids, Curriculum Review, NEA Today, Drama/Theatre Teacher, The Book Reader, Bloomsbury Review, the Midwest Book Review, Stein Online, C-Span2 Book TV, the Howard Stern Show, the Dr. Toni Grant Show, and many, many more.

Radke lives in Chandler, Arizona, with her husband and their two sons.
