CHANDLER, AZ — Good things come to those who love. That message certainly comes through in Letters of Love: Stories From the Heart, a collection of love letters and stories from everyday people.

Letters of Love is scheduled for release on Valentine's Day, naturally enough. However, the book is not just about romance. It's also about the little acts of love that make life more delicious. In its pages, you'll meet: a husband who sends a gift basket full of bug spray and fly swatters to his insect-fearing wife; a pilot who writes a "love letter" to her profession; a dad at war who sends a loving letter home to his little girl; a wife who stealthily substitutes low-fat foods for the high-fat goodies her husband craves; and a grief-stricken dad who imagines a message of hope from his dead daughter; and many more of love's true believers.

The collection is the culmination of a contest that Five Star Publications put on to find the best unpublished love letters and stories. More than 100 entries were received, and 34 appear in the book. There were eight prize winners in all, and 16 honorable mentions chosen by a panel of four judges. "We voted for what tugged at our hearts," says publisher Linda F. Radke. "We did a minimal amount of editing on these stories because we thought the emotion behind them was more important than any flaws in the writing," adds editor Salvatore Caputo. So, call it publishing verite, if you will.

Review copies of the book have already created a bit of a buzz, as these words from Gregory Godek, author of the best-selling 1001 Ways to be Romantic, attest: "Letters of Love is proof of love's power and mystery.
