New book shows that when women talk, women listen
Women are compassionate listeners who seem to know intuitively when to offer advice or merely a hand to hold or a shoulder to lean on. Author Gigi Garner has collected many of these intimate moments and compiled them into a book that offers tips on a variety of subjects for women everywhere.
Contributors include such Hollywood notables as Jamie Lee Curtis, Shari Belafonte, Lucie Arnaz, and Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa. But Garner went beyond the stars, too, and gathered advice and insights from dozens of accomplished women across the country. Among these are an elementary school teacher, a prison warden, a company president, and a professional angler.
In the book, women share with others their insights and tips on such topics as health, beauty, fashion, careers, emotional highs and lows, and even pets. Actress and children's advocate Sally Struthers offers some guidelines for remembering the names of people you meet. Singer Naomi Judd shares some entertainer's tips for removing stains. Girl Talk is like having your girlfriend over for coffee.
Gigi Garner, daughter of television and movie star James Garner, credits her father with instilling in her the conviction that she could achieve anything she set her sights on. "He also taught me, by example as well as by words, that women are special creatures," says Garner. "As I worked on this book, I realized over and over again how true that is."
