What happens when a fictional pup named Alfie comes of age?
Why, he has a Bark Mitzvah, of course!
Alfie, as do most dogs, possesses some wonderful qualities. He is brimming with unconditional love, the desire to help others, and a never-ending devotion to those around him. Alfie learned all these things as a puppy. Today, however, he is becoming a grownup dog and this most important milestone must be celebrated.
And so Alfie does what any good Jewish dog (or child) does. He has a Bark Mitzvah!
This engaging tale is by Shari Cohen who got the idea for the book by watching her own dog, is also the author of more than a dozen books for children and young adults, including Prime Time Rhyme, Macaroni and Fleas, Wild Wings: Planes, Rockets, and Spacecraft to Build and Fly, Draw Fantasy: Dragons, Centaurs, and Other Mythological Characters.
"Alfie is a great role model for kids," says Cohen. "As with most dogs, he gives without asking, cares about others, is truthful, forgiving, and has a loving soul." The book is a great starting place for parents to begin talking to their children about giving and helping others, she adds.
Alfie's Bark Mitzvah is delightfully illustrated by Nadia Komorova and, as a special bonus, includes a collection of children's songs created especially for the book by the internationally acclaimed Cantor Marcelo Gindlin.
Scheduled for release in 2007, Alfie's Bark Mitzvah (ISBN 978-1-58985-055-2), Book with Song CD $18.00, fiction, hardcover, is published by Little Five Star, a division of Five Star Publications, P.O.Box 6698, Chandler, AZ 85246-6698. The book is distributed by Ingram and Baker & Taylor.
